The inlay decoration of colored real leather fragments, created by Daniele Calamandrei, takes inspiration from the assumptions underlying the most positive models of Tuscan craftsmanship, appropriately and succinctly reworked so as to make them representable with inlay of letters. Painting with letters was a peculiarity of Alighiero Boetti through his “embroideries”.

The specific decoration of this wallet is based on some sayings of an old alabaster worker from Volterra, suffering from paraplegia, who has now passed away for a few years. He claimed that going to the workshop was like a cure, that stone had a direction and that, making his own tools with his own hands, helped him to understand and feel the direction of the stone better. This sensation in the way of attacking the stone, of feeling it, was an emotion that permeated him through his hands and this emotion was "curative" for him. On the other hand, he claimed to do the most beautiful job in the world because his customers were not customers but became friends. This is because in the wonder he read in their eyes when they contemplated his works, he felt for them a great feeling of closeness and the sense of his own self-realization. That wonder he read in their eyes was nothing other than an emotion that he, always with the work of his hands, had aroused and given to the customer. In short, his hands transmitted bidirectional emotions. Hence the statement "MY HANDS GIVE EMOTIONS" inlaid on the wallet according to the vertical reading direction typical of Alighiero Boetti's embroidery.
